McMaster Savings & Credit Union is subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPED).  In order to comply with PIPED Credit Union has adopted the Credit Union Code of Protection of Personal Information.

Our Commitment to You

McMaster Savings & Credit Union takes privacy seriously and we protect the confidentiality and security of your personal information.  As part of our ongoing commitment to you, we will keep you informed of our privacy policies and procedures and the safeguarding and use of personal information.

Your Responsibility

As a member of McMaster Savings & Credit Union you are given access to systems that will help you to conduct your business transactions more efficiently. The access includes Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) and ATMs and Personal Access Codes (PAC) or passwords. It is your responsibility to protect this information.  It is important that you safeguard the personal or banking information you choose to have.

Our Privacy Principles

To protect your privacy, McMaster Savings & Credit Union follows the 10 principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents  (PIPED) Act.

  1. Accountability:  McMaster Savings & Credit Union is responsible for the protection of all information received from members.  We have designated a Privacy Officer who is accountable for compliance of the 10 privacy principles.
  2. Identifying Purposes:  McMaster Savings & Credit Union is always open and upfront about the purpose for which the personal information will be used or disclosed. The information we are requesting helps us better meet your financial needs. 
  3. Consent:  We will only collect, use or disclose personal information with your full knowledge and consent, or as otherwise permitted by the Act.  Consent maybe given verbally, in writing or electronically.
  4. Limiting Collection:  We will limit the collection of personal information to the details necessary for the purposed identified to you.  Our standardized application forms ensure that only the information required is collected.
  5. Limiting Use Disclosure and Retention:  We will only use or disclose your personal information with your consent (see #3). We will limit the collection of personal information to the purposes identified by you and only retain this information as long as required.
  6. Accuracy:  We will make every effort to keep your information accurate, complete and up to date.  It is your responsibility to notify us immediately of any changes to your personal information.  Please contact our Westdale Branch to make any changes.
  7. Safeguarding Your Information: We will protect your information with all of the appropriate safeguards.  Every employee is required to sign confidentiality agreements and our systems and procedures are designed to prevent the loss, misuse and unauthorized access and disclosure of your personal information.
  8. Openness:  We will make specific, understandable information readily available to you about our personal information policies and practices.  If you require any other information about this or any other matter please contact our Westdale Branch.
  9. Individual Access:  At any time you can request and will be given access to the existence, use and disclosure of you information.  You are entitled to question its accuracy and completeness and as well as its use.
    Please submit your request in writing to the Privacy Officer, including the information you require in as much detail as possible.
  10. Challenging Compliance:  You are entitled to question the Privacy Officer about our compliance with any of these principles.

Privacy Officer

The Privacy Officer is responsible for monitoring information collection and data security, and ensures that our staff are properly trained on privacy issues.  The Privacy Officer is also responsible for responding to personal information access requests.
